WG100 Training

There is no doubt that the challenges of WG100 will demand enormous reserves of stamina, fitness and endurance – nothing, however, which would cause our gallant participants a moment’s hesitation, if the training photos are anything to go by.

This has been an exceptional year for the Welsh Guards, with parades to prepare, the Presentation of New Colours and the three Trooping Ceremonies, to say nothing of normal ceremonial and regimental duties. It is all the more impressive that time has been found to follow the more intensive training regime required for the various events which make up Welsh Guards 100, the first of which is starting on Saturday this week (20th June) with WAAT4 in Brecon and simultaneously, the Snowdon Trail Marathon.

This is how the men and women of the Welsh Guards teams have been preparing:

These two guardsmen have been limbering up for one of the tougher Welsh Guards 100 challenges of the Centenary year. They are participating in Ex CYCLE HARD, a 440 Km Road Cycle tour of Wales. The Cycle route encompasses all Welsh National Parks and is set to be a bit of a leg-buster! But the scenery will be second to none, so it won’t be all bad. Both Guardsman have been training hard and have made best use of the Battalion’s cycling equipment.

Wives and girlfriends have been getting involved too – this was the result of the first training exercise for one brave competitor

And here is the team from Headquarters Company before they set off to Wales to take part in the first leg of WG100 which starts this weekend. We wish them all good luck and clement weather.
